Darrin Lee (Big Dawg) Brunell Sr. Age 57

Darrin passed away on December 16, 2021.  Darrin survived for 39 days after finding out he had Stage 4 Pancreas Cancer.

Darrin was born December 11, 1964 to Maurice and Darla Brunell in Ogden, Utah.

He went to Lynn Elementary school, Mound Fort Junior High and Ben Lomond High School up to the 10th grade.

Darrin at a very young age was always over at Stauffer’s Towing helping out Von Stauffer with his little gas station and the tow trucks.  He worked for Stauffer’s Towing for many many years.  He also worked at Econo Waste, Robinson’s Waste, US Eagle for H.A.F.B, Bay View Waste H.A.F.B., then Metro Recycling in Ogden, Utah.

Darrin missed his towing days, so when his son Stephen called him for advice or to come help him, he was very happy to go show him some tricks.

His hobby was getting his trucks ready for Car Shows.  He was a member of the Intermountain Truck Club that was started by Jim Howe.  His first one was in August 2001 with his 1999 Ford.  He had his trucks for about 2 years then traded them in and started all over again with lifting them and decking them all out. He was invited to go to Auto Rama in Salt Lake City, UT, 3 years in a row and he won the top class in his class.  He also won awards through his years attending several car shows with his trucks.  His last truck he had was a 1999 Ford F250 4×4.  He kept all his vehicles like they just came off the car lot floor.

Darrin and his wife Leah went to every Don Williams concert that was at the Weber State Dee event Center in Ogden.  They got a souvenir from each show they went to.

He loved to have family get togethers with all his kids and grandchildren throughout the year.  He enjoyed it when the grandkids came over and stayed the night and invited us to their activities and birthday celebrations.  Darrin’s last birthday was very special to him, he enjoyed seeing all of his friends.

He is survived by his wife Leah for the best 25 years of his life.  He is survived by 5 sons Stephen (Cody Lewis) Marrs of Ogden, Ut, Michael (ShiAnne) Marrs of Tucson, AZ, Darrin Jr (Patricia) Brunell of South Jordan, Ut, Steven Brunell of Harrisville, Ut, Danny (Chantel) Marrs of North Salt Lake City, UT  4 daughters Jami (Corey F) Brunell of Ogden, Ut, Kassie (Dusty) Campbell of Ogden, Ut, Heidi Brunell of Ogden, Ut, Sylvia (Manuel N) Brunell of Denver.  He leaves behind 24 beautiful grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter.  He also leaves behind his Kitty Patches to take care of Leah.

He is also survived by his dad Maurice, Mom Barbara Brunell of Ogden, UT 3 brothers Scott, Frank & Bruce.  4 sisters Laurie, Penny, Lyndey & Mindy.  There are so many more relatives that he is leaving behind that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mom Darla, Daughter Heather, Grandparents, Uncles and Aunts.

I want to say thank you to Barbara Brunell, ShiAnne Marrs, and Mike Wolcott for helping me take him to his doctor appointments.  Thank you to my work McDonald’s for letting me take a leave of absence to take care of Darrin. There are so many more people that have shown their love to us with all their kindness.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of our family and friends through this.
