Darlene Kay Cloud died Monday evening, July 27, 2020, in Kalamazoo.
She was born January 11, 1945, in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of Plynn and Doris (Gilliland) Collier.
After learning to hold her own growing up in a household with four bratty brothers, Darlene graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1962. When Darlene’s daughter Kristie began kindergarten, Darlene returned to school herself. After graduating from Parson’s Business School, she began her career at John Hancock Insurance Company. She continued in the health insurance field for more than 20 years. Before retiring she spent 13 years working alongside her husband Dan at Save A Lot grocery store as a bookkeeper/cashier.
Darlene was an avid reader, she especially enjoyed novels by Danielle Steel. She liked to do many crafts, including crocheting and painting ceramics. Darlene loved fishing and spending time at her parent’s cottage on Huzzy Lake while they were alive. She liked to travel and especially enjoyed camping, beginning with traveling all over Michigan and northern Indiana with her husband, brother Dennis and sister-in-law Sue in a pop-up camper and ending with a travel trailer sporting a king-sized bed at Lake Schnable Family Campground. Darlene was overjoyed with the long-awaited arrival of her only grandchild, her Lily Bug, in 2011. She was a doting grandmother, a wonderful wife for over 40 years, a caring mother and sister, and a kind friend.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents.
On October 13, 1979, Darlene married Roy “Dan” Cloud who survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Kristie (Jeffrey) Woods; granddaughter, Lily Woods; brothers, Dallas (Brenda) Collier, Dale Collier, Dennis (Susette) Collier, and Duane (Donna) Collier; and many nieces and nephews.
