Darla Young, age 64, of Beloit, Died at : 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the University Hospital. Darla fought a courageous Lifetime battle with cancer. She finally succumbed at the age of 64 following a difficult battle with lung cancer. To Darla, cancer was not a problem. She started her battle with cancer when she was 28 years old as she battled breast cancer. She received treatment in Salem, OH and then the Cleveland Clinic. Darla first proved to be a champion as she beat breast cancer for the first time. Unfortunately, two years later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer a second time. Because she was pregnant with her second son Bobby, she awaited treatment. After delivery, she underwent radiation treatments for the following 6 weeks. Darla, then went on to love and teach her boys, Billy and Bobby, everything she knew. Soon thereafter Darla was diagnosed with a rare form of melanoma beneath her fingernail. After another surgery, she went back to her normal life. Darla, was sure to participate in the Walk of Life for Breast Cancer, and her favorite color was pink. After her sons finally graduated from college, She found a love for riding a motorcycle. Darla and her husband Bill rode motorcycles everywhere from Chicago to Niagara Falls to Myrtle Beach. Her children were her pride and joy. Her first son Billy went to school for high performance engines and built racecars. Her youngest son went to college and graduated medical school to become an Emergency Medicine Physician. During that time she also loved to perform mani/pedis and sell Mary Kay. Nonetheless, as she rode around on her Spyder motorcycle in glory about her wonderful family she suddenly became weak. After going to the doctor she found out she had lung cancer. At no point did she decide this would be a problem. She told her family that she would fight and win just like she had so many times in the past. So she took multiple rounds of chemotherapy. After that failed she decided to enroll into a study. “I’m not giving up, and I just want to live.” She said. So she enrolled, did well, and kept fighting. After a 2 year battle, the cancer slowly took over and brought her to her demise. It was easily the most courageous battle ever fought. Although she was able to see both her sons succeed in life, her final goal was to meet her grandchild, Alexa. Alexa will be lucky to have such a courageous woman looking over her as she grows up.

Darla is survived by her loving husband, William G. Young Jr., whom she married October 5, 1974; two sons, William G. Young III of Beloit and Dr. Robert (Andrea) Young of Wilmington, NC; a sister, Cheryl (John) Walters of Minerva; and sister-in-law, Cheri (Ted) Lisi of Salem.
