DarKena Vernae Lujenia Burton, 13, of Jacksonville, IL, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, at her home. She was born Sept. 24, 2007, in Springfield, the daughter of Michael R. Welch and Ida Marie Burton.
She is survived by her parents of Jacksonville; five sisters, Deadia, Daiziana, Doneille, Dezire, and Dahlia Burton, all of Jacksonville; maternal grandparents, Ida Claybrook of Rock Island and Thomas Burton of Jacksonville; and paternal great-grandmothers, Melba Welch of Jacksonville, and Bonnie Miller of Camp Point.
DarKena loved art, exercising with her TT Mary, cooking, and dancing to TikTok videos. She also enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, “Stitch”, sunflowers, music, doing puzzles, and her favorite color was baby blue.
DarKena was a firm believer in God, and when able she loved to attend church. She was full of life and spunk, and always kept a smile on her face as well as others.
