Darcy Gene “Road King” Johnson, 53, of Elkhart, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 6, 2009) in Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, after a sudden illness.
He was born Feb. 14, 1956, in Tacoma, Wash., to Garland and Alice (Swartz) Johnson. On June 24, 1980, he married Cynthia E. “Cindy” Corpe.
She survives along with four children, Tanya M. (Victor) Saldana, Angela (M. (Michael) Clift and Larissa C. (James) McCraner, all of Elkhart, and Adam A. (wife, Jennifer Watson) Johnson of Edwardsburg, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Robert L. (Jennifer) Davis of Huntington, Ala.; and two sisters, Cheryl “Lynn” (William) Shively of Syracuse and Florence (Timothy) Barry of Milford.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Alice and James Bradshaw; two brothers, Charles and James Bradshaw; and an infant sister, Diana Rae Bradshaw.
Mr. Johnson traveled across the country as a delivery driver for Hoosier Transit and had worked in the RV industry at Honey RV and Monaco. He was the owner and operator of Johnson Auto Sales and many other car lots in Elkhart. He worked on and restored old cars, and rode Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
A Goshen High School graduate, Mr. Johnson earned two associate degrees from Southwestern Michigan University. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating and cookouts.
