Danny Ray Stikeleather, Sr., 78, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Gordon Hospice House.
Danny was born on September 15, 1944, in Iredell County to the late Ray Brown Stikeleather and Rachel Irene Clanton Stikeleather. Danny graduated from Scotts High School and went on to serve in the US National Guard and US Army Reserve. He married his wife Virginia “Ginny” Gowan Stikeleather on February 22, 1981, who survives. He retired from Bell and Howard Chevrolet following thirty-eight years of service. He then worked for American Steel and the Auto Auction for a number of years and was currently associated with Black Automotive. Danny was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and served on numerous other committees. He was a member of the Gideons and had been involved with Via de Cristo. The Lord was the love of his life and he loved talking about the Lord. A highlight of his life was a trip to Israel in 2006.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Mayberry Stikeleather and two sons, Aubrey Dion Stikeleather, Danny Ray Stikeleather, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ginny Stikeleather, sister, Shirley S. Clendenin (Joe), brother, Dr. Larry Franklin Stikeleather (Ruth Ann), stepson, Joel Johnson and stepdaughter, Julie Wozniak (Paul). Also surviving are six step-grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
