Danny L. Flinn, 84, of Jacksonville, IL, and formerly of the rural Ashland area, died April 18, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 31, 1930 in Sangamon County, the son of Dan R. “Tuck” and Clara E. Cashin Flinn. He married Ruth E. Yancy on September 18, 1950 in Ashland and she survives.
He is also survived by five children, Randall Flinn (Deborah) of Jacksonville, Marilyn Brender (David) of Elm Grove, WI, Kate Borough (Julie Efaw) of Springfield, Nancy Wallner (Don) of Springfield, and D. Alan Flinn (Jennifer) of rural New Berlin; nine grandchildren, Zach Flinn (Kristen), Tim Flinn (Colleen), Jensen Flinn, Ethan Flinn, Kimberly Wallner, David Wallner (Brooke), Rachel Flinn, Jacob Flinn, and Adam Flinn; three great grandchildren, Brayden, Graysen, and Cashin; a sister, Joanne Skinner of Loami; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Robyn Stice Flinn.
Danny was a life-long grain and livestock farmer in west central Illinois. In addition, he served 33 years on the board of directors of the State Bank of Ashland, now known as West Central Bank. He also served with the US Army from 1951 to 1953.
He was a former member of the Prentice Farmers Elevator Board of Directors and was a 50 year member of Jacksonville Elks Lodge #682. He enjoyed flying and maintained a private pilot license for several years. In his spare time, Danny was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with his friends.
