Daniel Joseph (D.J.) Savino a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend too many. Dad was raised and born in Elmira, New York on June 22, 1922 and passed away April 4, 2012, a few short weeks before his 90th birthday.
The son of Mary and Frank Savino, an Italian immigrant from Bari, Italy, dad was known as Danny or D.J. and enjoyed, bowling, playing golf and following the N.Y. Yankees and The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame football.
In 1942, while serving in the Army, dad was severely wounded in Luzon Philippines and received the Purple Heart among other medals and accommodations.
For 30 years in New York, dad worked in the Elmira Post Office then moved and retired to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1973. In 2008 Corinne, Dad and family moved to Idaho to be with his family.
As a life member of the American Legion Post #0154, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1540, life member of the Elks Post 2297 and lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, dad cherished his lifetime membership with Tour Partners, a charitable arm of the PGA.
He is survived by his youngest brother Tom (Jan); son Danny (Charlotte); grandkids Christianna, and D.J.; daughter Corinne (Roy) Westlake; grandson Roy Jr.; daughter Roxanne (Paul) Steward; grandkids Joanne and Michael with 8 great-grandkids and 6 great great grandkids.
Daniel was preceded in death by our loving mom and his wife Loretta, his partner for 58 years; his oldest brother Mike; sister Angela and some of his cousins, nephews, aunts and uncles.
