Daniel M. Schaffer, 95, of Freeport, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born July 22, 1913 in Elkton, South Dakota, he was the son of Herman and Anna (Timm) Schaffer. He married Dorothy Howard June 20, 1936, in Elkton. He owned and operated a John Deere implement business in Elkton for 42 years. Daniel was a volunteer Fireman in Elkton for many years. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Freeport; his daughter, Grace (Gary) Mohr of Freeport; his son in-law, Earnest (Della) Clark of Tyler, Texas; five grandchildren including local resident Stacey (Doug) Dach of Freeport; 11 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dolores (“Dee”) Clark; four sisters; and seven brothers.
