Local business man Dale Wendling, former owner of ENCINAL MARKET for over 30 years passed away peacefully at home after a long illness surrounded by his loving wife Connie of 52 years and his beloved sons and family.

Born in South Dakota, Dale moved to Alameda with his family at the age of five.  Dale attended St. Joseph Grammar School, St. Joseph High School and UC Berkeley.

Dale was a member of the Alameda Commuters, Alameda Golf Club, Alameda Elks and Knights of Columbus.  He was an avid sports fan of the San Francisco 49ers, SF Giants, and Cal Basketball.  He enjoyed many years of playing golf and especially playing at St. Andrews, also travelling and playing softball with the Alameda Whales for 40 years.  Dale sponsored Alameda Little League and Alameda Adult Softball and supported many local community events.

Dale is survived by his loving wife Connie, his sons: Richard (Wendy) Wendling and David (Kristen) Wendling; cherished grandchildren: Cody, Katelyn, Theodore and Madeline Wendling; sisters Gladys Brandt and Donna Machabee; brother-in-law to: Monte Stagnaro, Marilyn and Ron O’Neal, Paul and Mary Stagnaro, Anthony and Lynette Stagnaro; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Matilda Wendling; brothers Roger, Marc, and Leroy Wendling and sister Dorothy Wiedmann.

The family would like to thank Hospice for his care, especially to Nazario and Julie.

Dale loved his family and friends and shared many happy memories with them.  He will be forever missed and loved.  Dale always believed the “glass was half full”.
