Dale D. Deihl, 78, of Ashland, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Heritage Health in Springfield.

He was born April 29, 1938, in Macoupin County, the son of George Elias and Florence Irene Daugherty Deihl. He married Virginia R. Dickson on Aug. 17, 1962, in Ocean View, Virginia, and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Susan Lee Deihl-Manges of Akron, OH, and Rebecca Lynn (Sean) Bertoux of Rushville; three grandchildren, Dean M. Deihl-Manges, Christian Lane Henry Bertoux, and Sebastian Luke Bertoux; brother, Ronald Lee Deihl of Mexico, MO; sister, Connie Sue (Bert) Pickerill of Raymond; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Deihl was a Registered Nurse for 42 years. He served with the US Navy from 1960 to 1964, in Portsmouth, VA, and then moved to Springfield, IL where he served in the Navy Reserves for 20 years. He went on to serve in the Army National Guard for 13 years. Dale was a member of Springfield Consistory and Pleasant Plains Masonic Lodge #700 where he was a Past Master. He was also a member of Ashland American Legion Post #498. He enjoyed participating with Civil War reenactors and the Route 66 Cruisers. “Dale means what he says and says what he means.”
