Cyrus Stevens Vaughn III, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2022 at the N.Y.S. Veterans Home in Montrose, NY; he was 88 years old. He was born on September 1, 1933 in Harrison, NY, son of the late Cyrus S. Vaughn Jr. and Dorothy (New) Vaughn. Cyrus served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955, he received an honorable discharge for his service.

On April 24, 1954 in Mamaroneck, NY, he married Josephine ‘Jaye’ Fosella, who survives him at home.

Cyrus graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from Potsdam University and continued with his Master’s Degree in Music Education from Boston University. He was a Music Teacher and Director of Music for the Beacon City Schools for over 30-years; he started at Rombout Middle School, also taught at Beacon High School, until retiring. He even taught private lessons which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Along with his love of music, Cyrus loved the art of stamp collecting. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife Jaye. He was a faithful Brooklyn Dodgers fan.

Cyrus was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beacon for many years until his health declined. 

Along with his beloved wife of 68-years, Cyrus is survived by his son and two daughters: Neil Vaughn of Beacon, NY; Deborah Jayne Forzano of Pleasant Valley, NY; Brenda Lynn LaManna of White Plains, NY. He is also survived by one brother Earl Vaughn; and his six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.
