We are sad to announce the passing of Craig Michael Cookingham, due to the Covid virus. He was 36 years old.

He was born September 10, 1984, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Bruce and LeeAnn Cookingham. He died August 26, 2021.

Craig is survived by his parents LeeAnn and Ron Besimer of Fallsburg, his father Bruce Cookingham and grandfather John Cookingham of Big Rapids, Michigan, his lifelong companion Barbie, the pride and love of his life-daughter, Brianna, Kylie and David, whom he helped raise. He also left behind his best friend and the best brother that anyone could have, Brett Cookingham and his family, Angie, Aydeliz and Angel; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and very dear friends, particularly William, Jerry, Jordan and Caleb.

Craig graduated from Fallsburg Central High School. He was employed by the Fallsburg School District as a maintenance specialist. He was very proud of the contributions and improvements he made to our school district. Craig was our rock. He had the knowledge to fix anything, if something was broken, we called Craig. If Craig couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed!

Craig had a passion for cars; he was a self-taught mechanic, and his specialty was VW’s. Craig could pull, rebuild or repair engines in record time. He could listen to a VW and tell you what was wrong without opening the hood!

Another one of Craig’s passions was woodworking. He was very talented; his yard and his family’s yards are decorated with many impressive handmade creations. He will be sorely missed.

We must mention his favorite canine companion, Jorge, whom he rescued in a field after someone threw him our of a car. That’s how Craig was, he’d save everyone, he also brought Turbo into our lives and that little beagle is going to miss him terribly. Craig would have lunch with him every day when he was on break from the school.

Thank you to all who have helped us through this difficult time. We have had such a wonderful support system and we’ll be forever grateful. Craig will always remain a very important part of our lives if only in memories.
