Those left to honor Craig’s memory include his two sons, David Allen Carter of Newton and William Joe (Joni) Carter of Newton; granddaughter, Kelsey Saunders of Newton; his mother, Thelma Carter of Newton; sister, Karen (Harold) Nall of Layton, Utah; his niece, Halynn (Troy) Thurgood of Clinton, Utah; and his special friend, Beth Corbin of Altoona.
Craig Lee Carter, son of Wilbur and Thelma (Patterson) Carter, was born March 25, 1957 in Newton. He grew up in the Newton area and attended Newton public schools.
Craig was united in marriage with Vickie Peiffer on August 19, 1976. This union was blessed with two children, David Allen and William Joe. Later, Craig was united in marriage with Jill Mathes on August 29, 1987 in Newton. Her death preceded him in 2002. Craig lived in the Newton and Monroe areas until moving to Collins, Iowa in 1993. He worked as a truck mechanic for Van Dusseldorp’s and Martin-Marietta. Craig enjoyed camping, fishing, and loved his dog, Jake. He was a caring father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend.
Craig’s death came on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Mariposa County Park in rural Kellogg. He was 51. Craig was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur and his wife, Jill.
