Corinne passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Sheffield Bay at the age of 93 years. She was born in Alpena, Michigan on March 3, 1929 to the late Harold and Agnes (Portwine) Niergarth. Corinne moved from Alpena to Bay City in 1943 and graduated from St. James Catholic High School in 1947. After graduation she went to work for Dow Chemical and then the city of Bay City. While working for Bay City she was a secretary and the city managers executive assistant. She retired from the city after 30 years of service in 1994. Corinne met Barney Martin thru the Bay City ski club and they married on November 8, 1952. They were married for 33 years until his passing on June 28, 1986. She was a parishioner at Corpus Christi Parish for many years and was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. Brigid division. Corinne was always very active in her community and was involved in many groups including volunteering for thirteen years with the Bay City River Roar. She was also active with the UWUA Local 542, served on the Bay City Housing Commission for twenty-four years and was president for 4, vetted jurors in Bay County for twelve years and was an active member and vice chair for the Bay County Democratic Party. In her spare time, she loved playing her piano with family sing alongs, playing cards and also spending time with her family and friends.
Corinne is survived by her children, Andrew (Anne Franko) Martin, Joe (Rosanna) Martin, Jim (Jan) Martin and Molly Martin-Danks; grandchildren, Michael (Ebba), Josh, Samantha, Peter, Sabrina, Shane and Savannah; great grandchildren, Damon, Evander, Kiyanna, Jameson, Jenavieve, KJ and Dean and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Sean and 3 brothers.
At the request of Corinne, cremation has taken place.
