Coraline “Corky” (Ryan) Nieman, age 93, of Akron, Ohio died Friday, May 06, 2016.
The daughter of the late Henry Frank and Effie (Everly) Ryan was born on April 15, 1923 in Bruceton Mills, WV.
Coraline graduated from Bruceton High School in 1940. During World War II she worked as a clerk for five years in the office of J. Edgar Hoover, the first director of the FBI.
In 1947 she married Alva W. Nieman, Jr. and they moved to Akron in 1952. She retired from Montgomery Ward & Co. in 1984 with 24 ½ years’ service as manager of the catalog department.
She was a faithful member of the Firestone Park Baptist Church since 1957. She enjoyed maintaining her home and gardening and was a proud recipient of several ‘Keep Akron Beautiful’ awards, but her greatest love and pride was for her family.
Coraline is survived by her daughters, Candi (Mike) Hudkins, and Cindy (Henry) Zuchegno; grandchildren, Devin Oddo (Stephanie Petroff), Rochelle (Ken) Oedemann, Renee (Jared) Claar, and Kathleen Charek (Michael Pettygrove); six great-grandchildren; Zachary, Mallory and Audrey Oddo; Erin and Ryan Oedemann, and Briella Mae Pettygrove; sisters Emily Nieman of Morgantown, WV, and Donna Lou Britton of Bruceton Mills, WV.
In addition to her husband Alva she was preceded in death by sisters Mary Ida Ryan, Ester Mann, Lucille Ryan, Geraldine Friend, Valgene Muha, Bernadine Michael; and brothers, Eldrich, James, Paul and Lynton Ryan.
