It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved, Konstantinos (Kostas) Emmanuel Markakis, 84, on Saturday February 5th, 2022. He was an incredible man who impacted more lives than we can imagine.
Kostas was born on December 20th, 1937 and raised in Ikaria, Greece to Zinovia and Manolis Markakis. He had an incredible love for his family, sailing, and helping others. He became a loving husband to Antonia, proud father to Gina and Manolis, and a dependable grandfather to Alyna, Evangelia, and Loukas.
Kostas spent his life working under foreign flags, and was a Captain of the Oglebay Norton flagship out of the port in Cleveland, Ohio.
Friends and family will remember his selfless spirit, unconditional love, bright smile, and his deep connection with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Antonia Markakis; his son, Emmanuel Markakis; his daughter and son-in-law, Gina and John Iconomou; his grandchildren, Alyna, Evangelia, and Loukas; his sister and brother-in-law, Filio and Sarantos Zourdos; and his nieces, Sophia and Mantina Zourdou.
