Conrad Harrington

November 21, 1927 – April 14, 2019

Henry Conrad Harrington, better known as Conrad, was a lifetime resident of Grant County, Arkansas. He passed away on April 14th, 2019 at the age of 91, surrounded by family. He was an only son, born November 21st, 1927, to the late Russel B. Harrington and Inez Koon Harrington. He married his wife of 68 years, Bobbi Jeree Bellomy, on August 12th, 1950.

In addition to his parents, Conrad is preceded in death by his infant daughter Donna Jo Harrington, and son-in-law Romie McDonald. He is survived not only by his loving wife, but by his two children and their spouses as well: Deborah (Ray) Gibson of Cherokee Village, and John (Leslie) Harrington of Sheridan; his five grandchildren–all girls–who dearly loved their “Pepaw”: Tara McDonald of Sheridan, Heather (Greg) Mouton of Sheridan, Jill (Erik) Havniear of Benton, Amber (Michael) Forbush of Sheridan, and Alison (David) Nguyen of Fayetteville. He is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren.

Conrad spent the majority of his career working in the sheet metal industry. He retired from the Sheet Metal Local #36 after more than thirty years of service. In his spare time, Conrad spent as much time outdoors as possible, whether it be hunting, fishing, gardening, or tending to his cattle. He especially loved to hunt squirrels and turkey, and to run his walker dogs. His nickname on the C.B. radio was “Foxhunter.”

Conrad was a part of Sheridan’s high school class of 1946; however, he stopped attending school to work at a Ford dealership much to the disappointment of the then-principal, A.R. McKenzie. After Conrad married junior student Bobbi Jeree, Mr. McKenzie convinced him to submit his work experience to the school for an auto-mechanic credit. He was then able to officially graduate and walk in the ceremony with his bride in 1951.

Friends and family of Conrad describe him as “somethin’ else.” Before marrying his saint of a wife, he lived some colorful teenage years. One of the family’s favorite stories is the time Conrad and a friend snuck out of school through the window of the agriculture building and hitch hiked to Little Rock to spend the day. Despite his somewhat wild youth, Conrad became a devoted Christian and member of New Life Fellowship Church. He was baptized at the age of 71. His daughter, Debi, jokes that he waited so long to get baptized so he could wash all of his misdeeds off at once.

The family would like to thank Doctor William Highsmith of Baptist Health Sheridan and all of the wonderful doctors and nursing staff at Baptist Hospice and Baptist Hospital who saw to the care and comfort of Conrad during his final weeks. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to pastor Steve Cypert of New Life Fellowship Church and friends Gary Don and Marilyn Easley of Sheridan.
