Colleen Fanny Iona Requist (nee Lewis) was born on Aug 30, 1926 near the small town of Hollis, Oklahoma. She passed away peacefully in the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021, in her adopted hometown of Denver, CO.

In her early years she attended a country school but later graduated from Hollis HS in town. Colleen was an accomplished musician and was known for her prowess on the piano and the Clarinet. She also loved it when the town hosted theatre productions…especially “Oklahoma” which was her favorite.

As you can tell by the date of birth she lived through the Great Depression and through the second world war.

After graduating from High School Colleen made her way to (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) in Weatherford, OK together with her High School friend Margaret. Colleen received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1948.

With her music degree she secured a teaching job at a local Elementary school in El Reno, OK not far from Oklahoma City, OK. Colleen met her future husband Norris Requist there in El Reno and they were married on June 10th, 1951. Norris had trained as a Geologist and found work in the Petroleum field in and around Midland, Texas.

Over the next eight years Norris and Colleen welcomed four children into their lives. The family moved frequently in the beginning but finally settled in Denver CO in January of 1966.

In later years Colleen worked in an Ophthalmologist’s office and then as a private Nanny for an aging adult suffering from dementia.

Colleen is survived by four adult children: Jena Requist, Niall and (Kay) Requist, Lane and (June) Requist and Galen and (Jenn) Requist. Colleen’s seven grandchildren and a great grandchild– Ryan (Elena), Cale, Beth, Jeff (Tara), Brennan, Janson (Courtney), Gillian and Bianca brought her tremendous joy.

In her spare time Colleen was a regular volunteer with the VA Hospital and used to take books and magazines around to the patients twice a week.

A charity she supported on a regular basis was “The Denver Street School” a high school for students seeking an alternative option to traditional learning institutions.

We will always remember Colleen’s beautiful smile and hearty laughter. She had an upbeat nature and always brightened a room. Colleen will be honored and remembered with gratitude and love as she leaves this earth to be with her Heavenly Father.
