CMS (Ret.) Charles A. “Charlie” Brown
Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Charles A. “Charlie” Brown, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 22, 2015 at the age of 74.
Charlie was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1940. He graduated from Union City High School Class of 1958 in Union City, Tennessee. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959, and worked with the American Tobacco Company. Charlie had a distinguished thirty-eight year career in the Arkansas National Guard, of which twenty-six years was the CSMS Electronics Section. Charlie’s love for his country earned him numerous awards, medals and achievements. He received The Honorable Order of St. Michael Bronze Award from the Army Aviation Association and several Meritorious Service Awards.
Charlie married Rita Tucker in 1963 and lived in Searcy, Arkansas for a short time. They settled into North Little Rock, Arkansas for forty-two years to raise their four children. He retired to Greers Ferry in 2007 where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling. Charlie lost Rita to cancer in 2013. He was an active member with West Side Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Wilma Brown, and his wife of fifty years, Rita Brown. He is survived by three sons: Michael (Donna) Brown of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Chris (Wendy) Brown of Dothan, Alabama, and Joseph (Accursia) Brown of Temecula, California; and one daughter, Mickey (Wayne) Marshall of Bentonville, Arkansas. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Austen (Brandi), Alex, Courtney, Tye, Ethan, Eli, Bailey and Brodie; two great grandchildren: Asher and Keeley; and fiancé, Melanie McGill.
