Claudia Mish Hayter, passed away on January 29, 2022 after a recent illness, surrounded by her family and listening to music. She leaves behind her devoted husband and life partner, James Hayter; three children, David Hayter and his partner Kate Bruce, Brendan Hayter and his wife Stephanie Sintra, and Amanda Hayter Hartsgrove and her husband Justin. Claudia was a resident of Plymouth, MA for the last 24 years. She hailed from Long Island, NY. Born on December 27, 1957 in Amityville to Harry and Ann (Petersen) Mish. She grew up in Farmingdale and graduated from Farmingdale High School where she held honors in Softball and Volleyball. Claudia is one of five children and is survived by, Stephanie Armstrong, V. Greg Mish, Cynthia Wisekal, and Stuart Mish. “Aunt Claudia” was also adored by many nieces and nephews. Claudia loved life, marriage, her children, her cats (Seamus, MacDuff, Boo Radley), her Dog (Jeter), the beach, music, and finally, the New York Yankees. Along with artists like Barry Manilow, Elton John, or Simon & Garfunkel, Claudia adored Neil Diamond – and even after living in Red Sox territory for more than two decades, she still loved “Sweet Caroline.” An avid reader, Claudia enjoyed her years working at small bookstores like B. Dalton and Waldenbooks and slept with a copy of Colleen McCullogh’s, The Thorn Birds at her bedside. Claudia and Jim met 40 years ago while working at Dry Dock Savings Bank, they instantly became the natural couple “Jim & Claudia” and built a family that she was oh so proud of, from David’s recent Master’s degree in Russian history, to Brendan’s musical endeavors where she could be heard shouting “That’s my son!” in between songs, and Amanda’s famous dance recital parties. She and Jim were fixtures for 20 plus years along the Rhode Island coast every summer, making many friends and enjoying her beloved beaches. Claudia had the innate ability to make people feel welcomed, wanted, and loved.
