Claude Franklin “Buck” Wells, 75, of 735 Indian Trail, Martinsville, died Friday, August 31, 2012 at Wake Forest University Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. Born September 4, 1936 in Martinsville, Buck was a son of the late Claude Simmons Wells and Bertha Smith Wells and was the husband of Shirley Stone Wells who died August 31, 2011. Buck was a member of Chatham Heights United Methodist Church and he and his wife had owned and operated Buck’s Fuels for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Martinsville Elks Lodge for many years and was an honorary volunteer member for the City of Martinsville Fire Department. He had served in United States Army and had graduated from Richmond Polytechnical Institute. Surviving is his daughter, Carolyn “Carrie” Wells Turner of Martinsville; two sisters, Edith Wells Brown of Hickory, NC and Gladys Wells Setliff of Martinsville and two grandsons, Matthew Wells Turner and Jaxon Simmons Turner. The funeral will Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services and Crematory, Martinsville Chapel with Reverend Steve Tilley and Reverend Marshall Banks officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral and at other times will be at the home of his daughter, Carrie Turner, 1776 Preston Rd., Martinsville, VA.
