Claude A. Holder, 71, of Meredosia, died Monday, January 19, 2015, at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Fielden, the son of Hosie Jerome Holder Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Knauss Holder. He married Mary E. Baiter on Dec. 10, 1966, in Roxana, and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Nova (Fred) Holder of Meredosia; his son, Kerry (Kathy) Holder of Lake Stevens, WA; four grandchildren, Justin (Andrea) Holder of Meredosia, Samantha Holder of Beardstown, and Cierra Holder and Hailey Holder, both of Lake Stevens, WA; two great grandchildren, Bianca Holder and Kaylen Holder; and four brothers and one sister, Mitchell Holder of Jerseyville, Bobby (Bonnie) Holder of Peoria, Paul (Cathy) Holder of Kansas, Margie Irwin of Rushville and Tom (Kay) Holder of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Holder; two sisters, Annie McClendon and Agnes Lonnes; and two brothers, Everett Dee Holder (surviving wife Jane of Meredosia) and Hosie Holder Jr.
Mr. Holder was a 1962 graduate of Meredosia-Chambersburg High School. He then joined the U.S. Army, and was stationed in South Korea. Following his discharge, he began work at National Starch in Meredosia for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed playing music with his brothers, especially at the fish fry he and Mary hosted every year, and using his backhoe any chance he could. His biggest joy came from being with his grandkids and great grandkids.
