Clarence D. Phillips age 85 of Midland died Sunday January 18, 2015 at Auburn Heights Senior Care. The son of the late Zachary T. and Minda (Herren) Phillips was born on December 24, 1929 in Silver Point, TN where he was raised and educated, moving to the Midland area in 1945.

Clarence served with the Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 12, 1953 he married the former Helen L. Hancock and she predeceased him on February 10, 2002. Clarence worked for Kaiser Refractory for ten years in maintenance, Tupes of Saginaw, Martin-Marietta and later to the Mid-Michigan Medical Center working in maintenance until his retirement.

Clarence’s heart was always with his beloved State of Tennessee and he was a very active farm hobbyist buying and selling animals at farm auctions. He enjoyed gardening and raising all sorts of animals. One of his many endeavors was growing and harvesting sorghum to make molasses for family and friends on a restored grist mill salvaged from Tennessee. He even went as far as to have a donkey to power the mill. Clarence also enjoyed bowling and volleyball in his younger years.

Clarence is survived by his sons Nicholas (Toni) Phillips of Midland, Kevin (Patty) Phillips of Midland, Brian Phillips and his fiancée Miranda Howe of Midland; daughters Julie (Michael) Moser of LaMarque, TX and Vicki Phillips of Freeland. He is also survived by grandchildren Paige, Amber, Zachary, Paul (Shannon) Phillips, Corey Moser, Wesley Moser and two great grandchildren Hunter Moser and Matthew Phillips.

Clarence is also survived by his brothers Charles Phillips, David (Joan) Phillips, Donald (Sheila) Phillips; sisters, Linnie Webb, Tilda (Cecil) Hatcher, Evylin Martin, Irene Dinkel and Faye (Jim) Beard. He was also predeceased by his grandson Reed Phillips, brothers, Wendell, Carson, Oscar and sisters Eva LaFever and Mae Hancock.
