Claire H. Fromme, 84, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Herrin, the daughter of Jesse O. and Elsie McArthy Hudgens, and was raised on the family farm near Marion. She married Bernard Joseph “Frosty” Fromme on Dec. 30, 1950, in Springfield, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1996.
She is survived by one daughter and six sons, Barb (Bob) Charlton of Petersburg, Phil (Gwen) of Alexander, Jack (Mary) and Mike, both of New Berlin, Kevin of St. Louis, Paul (Cindy) of Jacksonville and Mark (Aimee) of Alexander; twenty grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Frank; one granddaughter, Brittany; and one brother, Ray Hudgens.
Mrs. Fromme was a 1944 graduate of Marion Township High School. She then graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Prior to marriage, she worked for the State of Illinois. She then began raising her family and helping her husband farm in the Alexander area. Later in life, she served as a cottage parent at ISVI in Jacksonville. She was a member of Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville, and formerly a member of Church of the Visitation BVM in Alexander, where she was also a member of the Altar Society. Claire enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
