Claire E. (Galligan) Cassell, 89, of Newington, the beloved wife of the late John T. Cassell passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 after a short illness. Born in New Haven to the late James and Rita (McDonald) Galligan, she lived in Newington for many years before moving to Chatfield in West Hartford. Claire was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Newington, as well as the Holy Spirit Ladies Guild. She was a gracious hostess, awesome baker and avid crafter, known for her hand made Raggedy Anne dolls and afghans. Claire is survived by her loving children; Norine Burns and her husband Gregory, Nancy Philipp and her husband John both of West Hartford, John T. “Jay” Cassell, Jr. of Burlington, VT, Thomas Cassell and his wife Mary of Wethersfield and Elizabeth “Betsy” Bachman and her husband Robert of Newington; her grandchildren Morrigan, Bridget and Liam Burns, Emily LeFebvre, Erin Teffs and Keith and Justin Philipp; her great-grandchildren Fiona and Evelyn Steigelman and Graham LeFebvre, her sister Joane Lindsay of Green Valley, AZ, and her sisters-in-law Mary J. Cassell, Cecelia F. Cassell and Pat Galligan. She was pre-deceased by her sister Grace Coria and her brother Donald Galligan.
