Christine Naugher Fletcher, age 97, passed away March 25th 2014. Christine was born August 4th, 1916 in Florence, Arkansas to Thomas and Lena W. Naugher. She had two sisters, Maye and Minnie Naugher. After the death of her father, her family moved from Florence, Arkansas to Monticello, Arkansas. She attended Arkansas A and M and The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. There she received her degree in Home Economics. After graduation Christine worked as a home economist in Lewisville, El Dorado and Dewitt Arkansas.
She married Dr. William Thomas Fletcher in 1946. After almost 52 years of marriage Dr. Fletcher passed away in 1998. Also preceding her in death are her sisters Maye Naugher, Minnie N. Hobgood both of Monticello, Arkansas, and her eldest son Dr. William Thomas Fletcher II of Lonoke, Arkansas. Mrs. Fletcher is survived by her son Richard P. Fletcher of Lonoke, Arkansas, two grandchildren Dr. Julianne Fletcher of Lonoke, Arkansas, William Presley Fletcher of Dallas, Texas and daughter-in-law Julia W. Fletcher of Lonoke, Arkansas.
Christine’s faith was very important to her. She was an active member of the Lonoke Baptist Church. She worked and taught in the church Sunday school for almost 50 years. When her late husband could no longer read due to failing eye sight she read a daily Bible devotional to him. Christine was a member of the Lonoke bridge club where she enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her friends. Christine was a refined Southern lady known for her kind heart and gracious manners. She never met a stranger. She will be fondly remembered for her great generosity and charity.
Although Christine will be greatly missed her family takes comfort knowing that her spirit will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her.
