I am, Christian Calvin Hemmen, known to most as Chris, born on January 25, 1931, to Kobie and Dena (Lolling) Hemmen near Wesley, Iowa. Our family moved to Britt where I attended grade school and high school. My passion was racing motorcycles. In 1950 I joined the United States Air Force, serving in Korea during the conflict over there until being honorably discharged in 1954. In 1952 I married Jan Fricke and was blessed to be the father of four wonderful children- Susan, Christie, and twins, David and Darcy. During that union, we lived in the community of Hutchins, Iowa where I had a grocery store and an egg route. Later we moved to Algona where I had various operations- elevator owner and operator, construction, used-car dealer and then to be an over-the-road semi driver, which I retired from.

My first marriage ended in 1970 and in 1976 I married Carol Schilmoeller Kain and became step-father to five more wonderful children- Dana, Dale, Dawn, Dean and Darin Kain. I am very proud of my blended family and leave behind wife of 39 years, Carol; children- Susan (Clayt Armstrong) Smith of Livermore and children Will, Colt and Josie and their families; Christie (Scott) Schultze of Algona and children Ben, Melinda and Melissa; David Hemmen of Comanche, Texas and daughters Christina, Rachel, Caitlyn and grandson Eli; Darcy (Monte) Kaufman of Fort Dodge and children Kersten and Baron; step-children- Dana (Patricia) Kain of Vienna, Austria and daughter Taylor; Dale (Natalie) Kain of Carlsbad, California and sons Jason and Ryan; Dawn (Randy) Bjustrom of Algona and sons Jay (Josie), Tyler and Corey (Molly); Dean (Trina) Kain of Bellevue, Washington and son Alex; Darin (Linaka) Kain of Coal Valley, Illinois and numerous other family members and friends.

I had one sister, Marion Seebeck, who has passed. I also leave behind my love for golf, my winter in south Texas at J-5 RV Park, my love for farming with Mark Ferstl and the guys, driving silage truck for Tom Henry, driving various vehicles Motor Inn of Algona and my visits to Commerical Services with Scott, Ben and the employees. My special thanks to Pastors Loren Shellabarger and Walter Reemstma and everyone at the First Presbyterian Church in Algona. My love of life was immense and I was extremely blessed. God love and bless each of you and God Bless America. I ask that I be cremated and eventually buried beside my wife when her turn comes to meet the Lord. Chris was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marion Seebeck and grandson Baron Kaufman.
