CHINYERE ADA ECCLES-JAMES
It is with profound sadness that we announce the
passing of Chief Mrs. Chinyere Ada Eccles-James,
Ada Ukwu 1 of Egwu Ukwu, Afugiri, Nigeria.
Chinny, as she was fondly known, was born in
Umuahia, Nigeria on December 20th, 1952. She
was the second child of six children born to the
late Hon. Dr. M.1. Okpara, the Premier of former
Eastern Nigeria, and his wife late Chief Mrs.
Adanma Okpara.
Chinny passed away on May 23rd, 2022 in Atlanta
Georgia, USA, at the age of 69.
Her education began in Nigeria at WTC, Enugu, and continued at Queen’s School, Enugu.

Germany.
She met her husband Dr. Keddy Eccles-James in W. Germany. They were blessed with a son
and two daughters.
Chinny was known for her flair and sense of fashion. Her clothing line ” Barracuda Designs”
was a well-known trademark in Sierra Leone.
She was a lover of languages and a polyglot. She had an angelic voice that moved people to
tears. She was a unique unforgettable woman, who exuded warmth and kindness. Knowing
her was simply loving her. Above all, she was a God-fearing woman, an intercessor, and a
prayer warrior.
Chinny lived in Petal, Mississippi for most of the latter part of her life with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Keddy Eccles-James, her son Michael Eccles-James, her
daughters Nkechi James-Gillman Esq. and Dr. Ijeoma Eccles-James, grandchildren
Georgette, Amira, Samantha, Caleb, Chase, Colton, and Kenzo, daughter-in-law Fatoumata
Soumah and sons-in-law Benjamin Gilman and Cecil Williams.
She is also survived by her four siblings, Chief Uzodinma Okpara, Dr.Enyinnaya Okpara, Dr.
Ugonwa Dag-Ellams, and Dr. Ijeoma Okpara, as well as in-laws and numerous nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Nnawuihe Okpara.
She will be forever dearly missed.
