Chestine “Jessie” Banas, 89, of Sawyer, Michigan died peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
Jessie was born July 16, 1923 in Chicago to Teofil and Mary (Krupa) Kalinowski. She married Joseph R. Banas in Chicago. They made their home in Sawyer and ran a “Corner Store” across from Warren Dunes.
She volunteered at the River Valley Senior Center and was a fixture at St. Agnes Church in Sawyer where she was a member of the Altar Society for many years. Jessie was a wonderful, soft spoken, smiling, caring, generous, giving, woman serving others with sweetness in her heart. Her daughter will always remember her as a thoughtful, loving mother, grandmother, and “Nana”. Survivors include her daughter, Laura C. Parsons of San Diego; grandchildren, Kathleen, Edwin (Ned), Joseph (Tammy), Michael (Christine), Maureen, and James (Jun); great grandchildren, Amanda, Laura A, Derek, Haley, Michael Riley, Matthew, Mason and Samantha Sophia and her brother, Dan (Teri) Kalinowski.
Her husband Joseph preceded her in death on July 9, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her brother Fred (Peggy) Kalinowski and sisters, Frances (John) Marcisz, Rose (Joseph) Sturk, and Florence (Walter) Kasprzycki.
