Lodge, Chester R. 88, of Paradise Valley, passed away at home May 24, 2011 with family and friends at his side. He was born February 19, 1923 in McCausland, Iowa to Ewart “E.B.” and Irene Lodge., and grew up in West Branch, IA. He completed his bachelors degree in electrical engineering in 1943 and master’s degree in 1949 at the University of Iowa. Serving as an officer in the Navy during WWII, his duties included separating uranium in Oakridge, TN, and executive officer of a naval ship. After WWII, he returned to University of Iowa to complete his PhD in EE in 1952. Chester’s career spanned the globe from establishing an engineering college at the University of Peshwar, Pakistan in ’52-’53, to post-doctoral work in Zurich, Switzerland in ’64-’65. Chester was a full-time professor at the College of Engineering at San Diego State University from 1954 until he moved with his family to Arizona in 1985 and retired. He will be remembered for his love and compassion with great honor and respect. He was a wonderful tutor for his family, an avid stamp collector, and loved to read and hum. He was preceded in death by his wife Kirsti (married ’64), and survived by son Kristopher (wife Lora) and 6 grandchildren, daughter Karla, cousins Harold Lodge of West Liberty, IA and Lucille Novotny of Marion, IA.
