Chester Alex Dobecki, 92, of Niles, Michigan, formerly of South Bend, Indiana, died
May 28, 2005. A long time N.D. football fan, he maintained a record book dating back to NDs first football game indicating scores and starting lineups. He was a faithful football usher for 46 years rarely missing a game. A fine baseball player, and enthusiastic bowler, he enjoyed fishing with his three boys. Mr. Dobecki was a skilled craftsman: he built one house for his family in South Bend and his present residence of 45 years in Niles. After working at Bendix for 32 years, he retired in 1972. After that he teamed with his wife, Irene, to form Draperies by Dobecki. She made the drapes and he installed them. A member of the Knights of Columbus in Niles, he was a dues paying member of St. Josephs Young Mens Society since 1927 and a founding member and Vice President of the Holy Name Society of St. Adalberts in South Bend. Surviving him are his sons and their wives, Glenn and Sandy Dobecki of Duxbury, Mass., and Garry and Ilona Dobecki of Grants Pass, Oregon, five terrific grandchildren, six lovely great-grandchildren, and his younger brother Alfred, of Florida. His beloved wife of 53 years, Irene, and devoted son, Gordon, preceded him in returning to the Creator.
