Troy – Charles William Belanger, 88, of Burdett Avenue died peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, January 26, 2018, at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center after a long illness.

Born in Cohoes, he was son of the late Charles Andrew Belanger and Rose A. Roberts Belanger and husband for 67years of Margaret Mary LaVallee Belanger. He had resided in The Terrace Troy since Jan 2017 and prior to that resided at Sweetmilk Creek Road Troy for 51 years and was a graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy Cohoes and Municipal Police School at HVCC graduating in 1974. 

Mr. Belanger was employed at Troy Ambulance as a  Manager for 17 years, Captain of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, Commander of Highway Patrol for 10 years, National Grid at the Albany Steam Station in the Operation Department for 13 years and  he retired from there in 1994.   

He was a member of Knights of Columbus in Watervliet and a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church.       

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter, Cindy and her husband James Eastwood of Brunswick; his son, David Belanger Phd and his wife Diane Belanger of Brunswick; his sisters, Greta Bertrand and her husband Charles of Ballston Spa, and Sally Farrah and her husband John of Albany; his grandchildren, Erin & Brian Freeh, Erica Belanger & Jay Jones, Renee Belanger, Andrea & Chris Denio,  Ashlee Wilson, Alea & Steve Amyot,  Aaron & Cady Eastwood, Carly and Joseph Belanger and his great grandchildren, James and Catherine Freeh,  Augustin and Gaius Jones, Claire and Aliza Denio, Aidan Wilson, Ryleigh Domey and Easton Amyot.  He was predeceased by a son, Craig William Belanger.
