Charles W. Magner

Charles W. Magner, 86, of East Village Drive, Notre Dame, Indiana, passed away on Monday, October 17 in Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, Battle Creek, Michigan. He was born on December 8, 1918 in Jacksonville, Illinois to James T. and Rosetta (McHatton) Magner. Mr. Magner was a self-employed CPA for 25 years. He then was employed as Controller for the South Bend Clinic for seven years, before retiring on December 31, 1983.

On September 27, 1947, in St. Patricks Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana, he married Marie D. Hosinski, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary (Ronald) Sine of Battle Creek, Michigan, Anne (Anthony) Farrell of Champaign, Illinois; two sons, Michael (Denise) Magner of Arlington,Virginia, Patrick (Maureen) Magner of Oak Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Sine Schneider, Katie (John) Sine Scheuerle, Tim Magner, Dan Magner, Sean Magner, Emma Magner, Abby Farrell and Max Farrell; and two brothers, Paul Magner of Jacksonville, Illinois and Louis (Betty) Magner of Seguin, Texas.

Mr. Magner was a 1940 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He served in World War II for five years, where he spent three of those years in Calcutta and attained the rank of Captain. He was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a member of the Indiana Society of CPAs, the Knights of Columbus Council 553, Sacred Heart Parish and the Notre Dame Alumni Association, where he was Class of 1940 treasurer for 65 years.
