Charles Russell Reed, 74, of Vandalia, died peacefully at home of an extended illness early Saturday morning, February 22, 2014, surrounded by his family.Charles was born December 11, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Charles and Florence (Freeby) Reed. His parents and a sister, Virginia Noe, preceded him in death.
Charles attended Indiana University, leaving to work at the Rayette Manufacturing Company in New Jersey, and then went to Georgia, to become a chief engineer and innovator in custom aerosol packaging. As a leader in his field, he founded the Accra-Pac Company in Elkhart, Indiana. He later moved to Colorado where he bought and renovated the historic Doc Holiday’s Tavern in Glenwood Springs.
He returned to Elkhart where he worked as an engineer and sales consultant for several manufacturing companies. Family and friends will greatly miss Chuck. He is survived by his wife of twenty one years, Sally Reed of Vandalia; two daughters, Kellie Obermiller, Kim Case; two sons, Chad Reed, Chris Stump; one step-daughter, Ashley Taylor; two step-sons, Steve Aurand, Chuck Aurand; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two sisters, Cleota Reed and Sherry Barbaro; and one brother in law, Nick Noe.
