Charles Ray Myers, Sr. passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the age of 89. Born January 31, 1935, in Roanoke, Virginia, he was the son of the late William R. Myers and Marion H. Myers. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy C. Myers; sisters, Ruth M. Metts and Barbara M. Burkholder; and brother, James R. Myers, Sr.  Charles accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at the age of 12 at the Waverly Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. His most recent membership was at the Woodlawn Baptist Church, but he has been affiliated with several churches over the years where he served on numerous boards and as a deacon. In his free time, he enjoyed creating and completing projects around his home. He found a lot of joy in living on the farm, his boxing career, and telling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren stories of his childhood. Charles loved his Lord, and his great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye.  He began a boxing career through the Roanoke Police Athletic Association, where he became the 1957 undefeated golden glove champion. Due to his family obligations, he decided not to go pro and pursued a career in retail, which eventually led him to Hopewell, where he called home for 57 years. He was also the founder of the Mattress and Spring in 1982.  Charles was active in several organizations: The Jaycees, Hopewell Moose Lodge, and the Petersburg Masonic Lodge #15. With each organization, he served in the highest capacities. During his tenure with the Jaycees, he was responsible for bringing the first pro wrestling matches to Hopewell in the 1970’s.  He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dixie Collins Myers; daughter, Carol M. Stevens and husband Phillip; sons, Eddie Collins and Steven Collins; grandchildren, Kenny Stevens and wife, Heidi, Chip Stevens and wife, Leslie, Tripp Myers and wife, Jennifer, McKenzie Davis, Madison Collins, and Allison Collins; great-grandchildren, Charlee Ann Stevens, Lily Stevens, Adora Stevens, Leah Myers, Chelsea Myers, Liam Stevens, and Christopher Stevens; nieces, Lisa M. Vilagi and Gail M. Schuller; and nephew, James R. Myers Jr.
