Charles P. Driscoll, Jr. of Middleton, passed away on January 11, 2017 surrounded by his wife and children. Charlie was born July 28, 1939, in Stoneham, MA, grew up in Malden, MA and attended Malden Catholic. After graduating from Boston College in 1962, he completed his commitment to the US Marine Corps before being honorably discharged as a 1stLt and then went on to a 30 year career in sales at IBM. Best known to his many friends as “Coach”, Charlie’s second career involved serving as the varsity ice hockey head coach at several high schools, including his alma mater Malden Catholic (1973-1976), Wakefield (1977-80) and Medford (1987-2003) in addition to supporting roles at Archbishop Williams, Stoneham and Reading. Although the recipient of individual awards for coaching excellence resulting from many of his teams achieving great success, including a state title in 1974, he was most proud of his players off the ice accomplishments. The arrival of 8 grandchildren over the last 16 years transitioned Charlie from coaching to proud fan where his legacy continues with all of his grandchildren (from mites to high school) playing the sport he so loved. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, golfing as a long-time member of Bear Hill Golf Course and membership at the American Legion in Middleton. Charlie was the son of the late Charles P. Driscoll Sr. and Helen A. (Sullivan) Driscoll. Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, David M. Driscoll and Col. William J. Driscoll. Charlie was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Bartsch) Driscoll, with whom he shared forty-nine years of marriage and without whose support his coaching career wouldn’t have been possible.
