Charles “Leroy” Pierce Sr.
Charles Pierce, born January 16, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama died July 03, 2015 at the age of 75.
Charles was a 21 year Military Veteran, he joined the Navy in 1961 stationed In San Diego, CA aboard the U.S.S Estes (AGC-12) as a diesel mechanic and cross trained for refrigeration and cryogenics. Set sail to Subic Bay in the Philippine Islands where he met his wife Betty. He later switched ships and became crew member aboard the U.S.S John Paul Jones (DD-932) as a refrigeration tech.
In 1969 he decided to give civilian life a try moved back to his hometown of Tilman’s Corner in Mobile, Alabama. In 1971 he re-enlisted into the Air Force and was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, and finally to Eglin A.F.B and in 1978 his family received orders for a Permanent Change of Station to Bitburg, Germany where they were stationed for 3 years. He was given orders to return to Eglin, A.F.B and shortly after his return he retired.
He decided that Florida was the place to stay and made Fort Walton Beach his permanent home. He then opened his own business in1983, Pierce Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and is still in operation today under his son Andy; his oldest son Charles Jr. also started a company under the same name in Georgia.
He had made many friends throughout his 40 years here in the area from his business to his bowling and often inquired about them and remembered those that had passed, he will be remembered by all that knew him as a man of integrity that always had a smile, loved to laugh and something funny to say. He was a hardworking man and an exceptional provider and loved his family dearly; everything he did was for them. He was a Son, Husband, Father and Grandfather, he was our hero. He will be missed.
Charles was preceded in death by his Mother, Mary Loraine Guy and Father Percy Lee Pierce and infant daughter. Survived by his wife of 52 years Bating “Betty” Acierto Pierce and 3 Children, Charles Leroy Pierce Jr. wife Evelina, William Andrew “Andy” Pierce Sr. wife April, Barbara Ann Ewert husband Patrick and 11 grandchildren. Fallon Ashley Pierce, Olivia Renee Noble, William Andrew “Andy” Pierce Jr. Dylan Errol Pierce, Bradley Ray Odom, Noah Addison Pierce, Sean Michael Guessford, Brandon Stone Guessford, Jared Tyler “JT” Guessford, Aiden Christian Ewert, and Alex Hunter Ewert. There is one other person that we would like to mention and that is Richard “Rick” Earl Comi II, was another one of the family and one that Charles called his other son, Rick is best friends with his older son Charles Jr. and lived with the Pierce’s for many years while attending Niceville High School. Rick and his wife Yumi and their daughters, Corinthia Beth Comi, Cynthia Brooke Comi are also surviving members of Charles.
