Charles L. Nichols, 73, passed peacefully in his home on November 9, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1949 in Winsted, CT to George and Maria Nichols. He had been a life-long resident of Winsted, where he contributed greatly to the town and home he loved.
Charlie grew up working and tending to the family business, JB Nichols and Sons. He graduated from The Gilbert School in 1968 and attended two years of college at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Charles started his career as a foreman at Waring Products and then went on to become a very successful insurance agent for Prudential. He then purchased his own business. Lastly, he moved on to work at the Waste Water Plant in Winsted for 18 years where he retired from in 2018; Charlie loved this job and the friends he worked with.
In 1974 he married Aida, and together they raised their 2 daughters, Heather and Amelia. He was so proud of his family and made it known to the them every day. He created so many fond childhood memories for his children that they will hold onto for a lifetime.
Charlie had a lot of love in his heart which he shared with the community; just like his father George, he was known and respected by all of Winsted. Charlie was a very diverse man with many talents, he was a blackbelt and teacher in karate, an extraordinary dog trainer, a butcher, a fantastic cook, and he loved to learn and read. He also truly enjoyed music and attended the first Woodstock in 1969. Charlie had a love for nature and the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He won numerous turkey call contests, field trial competitions and had the best shot in Connecticut. Charlie was a lifelong member of the Coon Club in Norfolk, this place provided him with many wonderful years, experiences and friendships. Charlie was also a member of the Elks. He loved the many events at Maasser El Chouf, which brought a little bit of Lebanon to Winsted.
Charlie’s whole world became brighter when his grandson Oliver was born in 2007, he was his pride and joy. Charlie was kid at heart and this was evident every time Oliver would visit, he loved to share his interests and hobbies with Oliver. He cherished his time spent with him and radiated joy and love when he was in his presence. Charlie also loved and adored his grand-dog, Evie. He loved to take her swimming at the Coon Club and always had a treat in his pocket waiting for her. Charlie was fortunate enough to grow up in a huge, loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Maria Nichols and his grandparents, Joseph and Edna Nichols and Edna NeJaime, along with other aunts and uncles. Charlie leaves behind his beloved daughters, Heather (Markos Miller) and Amelia, his very best friend, Aida, his grandson Oliver and grand-dog, Evie. He also leaves his siblings, Suann/Sam (Peter) Zoppi, Katrina Nichols, Joseph (Lori) Nichols, his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, many aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be deeply missed and remembered. At this time services will be private and a beautiful celebration of life will take place for all family and friends in the spring.
