BRUYSTENS, Charles L. Kalamazoo Charlie passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 1, 2015 at his home. He was born on November 22, 1944 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Herbert and Johanna Gerritsen Bruystens. Charlie was a veteran of the United States Army serving 2 years during the Vietnam Conflict. In Nov. 1979, he was married to Lorraine K. Leamy in Kalamazoo. Charlie was employed by Simpson Paper Co. for 35 years until his retirement in 2009.

He was an active member and volunteer at the Comstock VFW Post #6252, where he served on their honor guard and as their chaplain. Surviving are three children, Diane Dinse of Kalamazoo, Dawn Roger Stewart of Cleveland, TN and Ronny Deb Headrick Bresson of Evansville, IN; seven grandchildren, T.C. Adrianne Dinse, Troy Kelly McAfee Dinse, Travis Devon Dinse, Michael Mattimore, Thomas Danielle Mattimore, Lacey Smith, and Sean Samantha Nuyen; seven great-grandchildren, Cooper, Easton, Haley, Harley, Trinity, Carsen, and Chloe; sister, Olga John Crossman; three brothers, Herb Bruystens of Mendon, Fritz Bruystens of Three Rivers, and Carl Judy Bruystens; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife of 27 years, Lorraine Bruystens; and daughter, Debbie Mattimore.
