Charles “Charlie” Joseph Ogulewicz Sr, age 82, a life long resident of Easthampton, died comfortably at the Elaine Center of Hadley after a period of declining health. He was born the son of the late Alexander and Amelia (Dubilo) Ogulewicz in Holyoke, MA on January 25, 1939. Charlie was educated in Easthampton Schools and Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School in Northampton.
He started working at a very young age at the former Underwood Farm on East Street in Mount Tom section of Easthampton and even continued there right up until the farm closed. His full time career started at age nineteen, at Philips Manufacturing Company on Ward Ave in Easthampton, there he was a welder in the manufacturing department, becoming the foreman in his later years. He worked for fifty years, finally retiring at the age of sixty nine, even going back part time for a period of time. His strong work ethic continued his entire life.
He was an outstanding athlete who excelled in basketball, baseball and softball, that continued into his senior years. Charlie played for many years in the Easthampton and Northampton Men’s Adult Slow Pitch Softball Leagues and claimed many championship trophies, but his proudest memories, was one being able to play the game he loved so much with his two son’s. He loved teaching the game of sportsmanship and fair play to the boy’s he coached in Easthampton Little League. He was also a man of faith, and was a communicant of the Sacred Heart of Heart of Jesus Parish, Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton.
Charlie was a loving and devoted husband who was married on November 25, 1957 to the love of his life, Frances Helen (Murch) Ogulewicz and together they celebrated sixty three years of marriage. Besides his wife Frances, he is survived by his cherished children and grandchildren; two daughters; Joanne Frank of Easthampton, Susan M. Bishko of Belchertown, two sons; Charles Joseph Ogulewicz Jr. of Easthampton, David Charles Ogulewicz of Westfield, four grandchildren; Melissa Capriati and her husband David, Christopher Frank of South Hadley, Bryant Bishko of Easthampton, Nathan Ogulewicz of Westfield, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased five brothers and three sisters; Walter, Wallace, Chester, Mitchell, Stanley, Stacia, Theresa and Sophie.
