Charles Andrew Girand, 85, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022 in Dallas, Texas.
Charles was born on June 10, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas to Violet McGinness Girand and Charles Francis Girand. After his family moved to Dallas, Charles attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Upon his graduation in 1955, he enrolled in Southern Methodist University, where he graduated with a Finance degree in 1959. He graduated from Southern Methodist University School of Law three years later, and he was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1962.
During law school, he also met the love of his life and future wife, Camelia Dethloff. They were married in 1963 at Mildenhall Air Force Base in England, where Charles served in the US Air Force as a legal officer and where he attained the rank of Captain.
The couple returned to Dallas in 1965, and Charles commenced the private practice of law. He became a partner in Spinuzzi & Girand in 1968, and four years later, he joined the firm of Herndon, Girand, Smith & Kolodey. In 1980, he became a partner at DeHay & Blanchard (later Payne & Blanchard) until he retired in 2019.
Earlier this year, Charles celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary.
Charles enjoyed collecting classic cars – the Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing and the Ferrari 250 Lusso were some of his favorites – and his only regret was that he did not keep them to the present day.
Although Charles spent the last couple of years battling late-onset Alzheimer’s, the positive way he met the challenges of the disease were an inspiration to everyone who knew what he was going through.
He is survived by his wife, Cammie; sons, Mark Girand and wife, Sally, of New York, New York; Chris Girand and wife, Eri, of Encinitas, California; Todd Girand and wife, Amy, of Crested Butte, Colorado; and six grandchildren: Malcolm Girand, Josie Girand, Kazuki Girand, Olivia Girand, Camille Girand and Cora Girand.
