Charles “Gene” Delaney, 94, of South Jacksonville, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Passavant Area Hospital.
He was born March 18, 1918, in Crackers Bend Neighborhood, near Arcadia, IL, the son of William and Bertha Kennedy Delaney. He married Helen Joan Niemann on February 18, 1950, in Arenzville, IL and she preceded him in death on December 12, 2011.
He is survived by a daughter, Roena Henne of Jacksonville; a special niece, Joni Walmsley of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Merle and Kenneth Delaney; sister, Louise Lane; and son-in-law, James Henne.
Gene worked as a shop foreman and mechanic for the Ford dealership in Jacksonville, retiring in 1981.
