Charles “Chip” E. Roe, age 69, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home, January 29, 2015, with his loving wife and son at his side.

He was born April 16, 1945, in Rome the son of the late Charles E. and Mary Pitts Roe, and graduated from Rome Free Academy and Utica College. Chip was united in marriage to the former Maureen Nickels on July 12, 1969, in Hartford, CT. He worked at Bailey, Haskell & LaLonde. Chip proudly served in the U.S. Army.

Chip was very active in the community, serving as Chairman of the Board, Rome Area Chamber of Commerce 2002-2003, was a member of Rome Country Club, long-time member of Coalyard Charlie’s Golf League, member of Lake Delta Yacht Club, Rome Elks and Past president of the Rome Youth Hockey Association.

Chip touched countless people in his life, both personally and professionally, through his wry sense

of humor, quick wit, breadth of knowledge (too many subjects to count) and his genuine character. It was a privilege to have him in our lives. Indeed, he was a Viking til the end.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Stephen Graziano and the entire oncology staff at Upstate Medical Center, Oneida Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Linda Schicker and the staff at Mohawk Valley Radiation and the wonderful people at Hospice & Palliative Care, especially Cheryl and Georgia.
