Charles Conrad Holt passed away on February 18, 2015, at the age of 94. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nadine. He is survived by his daughters, Cydney (Walter) Tholl, and Allyn, and by his son, Conrad (Ginger Davies). He is also survived by his grandson, Andrew Tholl and five granddaughters: Avery Danforth, Taylor (Sam) Martin, Carter Tholl, and Elizabeth and Chloe Davies-Holt.
Charles was born to Leo and Ida Holt in West Frankfort, Illinois, on February 12, 1921. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War Two. On his return to West Frankfort, he met Nadine, and the two were married on January 1, 1948. Charles attended college on the GI Bill, ultimately earning an Ed.D from the University of Illinois. He had a distinguished career in public school administration, serving as Superintendent of Scottsdale Unified Schools, South Bend, Indiana Public Schools, and Proviso Township (Illinois) High School District. Following his retirement in 1980, he and Nadine settled in Scottsdale.
Charles was a man of great warmth and personal charm, who made friends wherever he went. He will be missed by many, but those of us who knew him best will miss the singing.
