Charles C. (Uncle Charlie) Mathiason Jr., 94, of Melbourne, FL, passed away on February 10th. Charlie was the husband of the late Helen Mathiason, who predeceased him on March 16, 2004, and with whom he enjoyed 54 years of marriage. He was born August 18, 1918 in Hartford, CT, the only son of Mary Lovett Mathiason and Charles C. Mathiason. He was predeceased by three sisters, Pearl Hathaway Koles, Eileen Derlaga, and an infant twin sister.
He was a resident of Melbourne for the past six months, formerly living in Rockledge, Merritt Island, and Cape Canaveral FL, and previously in Hartford and Old Saybrook CT. He was a US Army veteran, serving during WWII, and received a purple heart. He was employed as an IRS agent in Hartford, CT until his retirement in 1979.
Following his retirement he and his wife Helen moved to Florida, where he continued his favorite pastimes of playing golf and cheering on the Boston Red Sox.
