Charles A. Copley, 86, of Ashland, IL died April 10, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Home in Springfield, IL.
He was born January 1, 1929 in Marion County, KY, the son of James Walker Gordon Copley and Mary C. Bivins Copley. He married Loretta Agnes Hibbs on June 5, 1950 at St. Augustine Church in Ashland and she preceded him in death on August 3, 2014.
He is survived by four children, Patricia Mutchler (husband, Jack) of Springfield, Charles J. Copley (wife, Ramona) of Ashland, Joseph Copley (wife, Sandra) of Santa Barbara, CA, and Robert Copley (wife, Christina) of Quincy; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; five siblings, Henry Copley of Burlington, IA, Thelma Black of Springfield, Sadie Barnett of Williamsville, Christine Charles (husband, Wayne) of Lake George, FL, and Dorothy Murphy of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Frances Guthrie, Fannie Barnett, Monroe Copley, and Harold Copley.
Charles worked as an operating engineer from Springfield Local #965 for many years before retiring. He was a member of St. Augustine Parish in Ashland. A devoted father, Charles was always willing to assist his friends and neighbors as well as volunteering for church and community events.
