CELISTINA “SALLY” MARQUEZ, 90, a resident of Bayard passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family.

Sally Barragan Marquez was born on October 25, 1920 in Silver City, NM to Juan and Antonia Barragan. She was raised in Mimbres and Silver City, NM. Sally married her husband of 64 years Manuel O. Marquez on August 29, 1940. They both raised 3 children, Ralph B. Marquez, Johnny Chavez, and Reynaldo B. Marquez. Sally worked at the Cobre Cafeteria as a head cook where she retired from and also owned and operated the Spanish Café in Bayard. Her tamales and fruit empanadas were the best.

Sally is preceded in death by her parents Juan and Antonia Barragan, her late husband Manuel O. Marquez, sons Ralph B. Marquez and Johnny Chavez, and grandson Junior Ralph Marquez. Brothers; Alsalmo Barragan, Cheno Barragan, Lorenzo Barragan, and sisters; Carmen Gibson, and Barbara Cooper. She is also preceded in death by Brother in-laws Ramon Marquez and Freddy Flores. Sister in-laws Maria Marquez and Mercedes Saenz and mother in-law Cruz O. Marquez.

Sally leaves behind her loving son Reynaldo B. Marquez and wife Yvonne, brother Santiago Barragan and sister Helen Breland. Brother in-law Rudy O. Marquez and wife Emma and daughter Minnie D. Marquez. Also 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Grama Sally enjoyed cooking, being with her family, and as one of Jehovah’s witnesses she loved her ministry work and the fellowship of all her Brothers and Sisters in faith. She loved her sons dearly.
