Fondly known as Chela to friends and family, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017.

She was born in Mexico City December 30, 1924. She met her husband, Stewart Hatch who was a USAF WWII veteran in Mexico City. He passed away in 1972. Chela’s parents were Zenaida Rojas de Fernandez and Gregorio Fernandez. Chela’s in-laws were the honorable Senator Carl A. Hatch from New Mexico and Ruth C. Hatch. She completed her undergraduate and graduate education at the University of New Mexico. She raised her family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chela was a lifelong educator and spent most of her career teaching within the Albuquerque Public School System. Early in her career she was also a Spanish teacher for the Peace Corps. After her retirement, Chela continued to work for many years teaching English as a second language to immigrant children. Chela enjoyed getting friends together who were active in the Democratic Party for social get-togethers and political fund raisers.

Chela is survived by her son, Ryan Hatch, Lynn Hatch and their daughters, Nicole and Christina. Her son, Frank Hatch, Sherrie Hatch and their son, Nathan; her daughter, Victoria Hatch and her husband, Dr. Oswaldo Pereira and their daughter, Isabella Pereira; her step-daughter, Harriet Trapani, Giorgio Trapani, Harriet’s husband, their son, Carl and his wife, Sarah and their children, Ben and Emma.
