Cecile Ann Norton, 98, died Wednesday, January 8, at the Good Samaritan Center. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren; Kendra Pamenter, Stephen Hartsfield, Eric Walsh, Lisa Lorentz, Jason Barta, and Laura Bleakney. Cecile Ann was born October 23, 1915 at Kansas City, MO, daughter of Ned and Eva Downing. The family moved in 1922 to Marshalltown where she graduated from high school. She attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1938. On Thanksiving Day that year in Marshalltown, Cecile Ann was married to Richard “Dick” Norton of Algona. The couple made their home here.
Cecile Ann was an active member of her church, she worked as an aide at Bryant Elementary School for 12 years, and was a charter member of the American Association of University Women. Her bridge and sewing clubs were also a part of Cecile Ann’s life. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for many years and was also active with the Girl Scouts. Cecile Ann was an avid bird watcher, she loved nature and enjoyed telling children about its wonders. She is survived by three daughters, Siri Hartsfield of Algona, Lynne (Jerry) Barta of New Hampton and Leslie (Jack) Walsh, Jackson, MN. There are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her parents and a sister, Ernestine Crosby.
